Ever wonder why Newsweek was sold for $1?

To democrats/progressives:

Sarah Palin’s husband, Todd, has purchased Newsweek magazine.

This is an outrage, right?

Oh, wait a minute.  I got that wrong.  It’s Democrat Congresswoman, Jane Harman’s husband, Sidney Harman, instead. (Note:  this was at the time Newsweek changed hands in 2010)

Now tell me how this is not a conflict of interest?

Imagine the outcry if this were a republican!!  Let’s watch the double standard play itself out here.  I’m sure it will be a-okay since it’s a mighty democrat involved.  (More of the 03.08.10 post here:  http://bellalu0.wordpress.com/2010/08/03/newsweek-magazine-sold-to-who/)

This is old news, but it is relevant as to where Newsweek is coming from.  You might say they are “owned” by the DNC obama organization.

With that in mind, it is no surprise Newsweek covers their imaginary magazine with references to obama critics as being dumb.  I take issue with that one.   I am wondering why obama’s supporters are so dumb.  Of course, IF that were on the cover, there would be protest all over the media.  You will never see a headline “Why are obama’s supporters so dumb.”  Never.

Newsweek magazine SOLD to Who?

To democrats/progressives:

Sarah Palin’s husband, Todd, has purchased Newsweek magazine.

This is an outrage, right?

Oh, wait a minute.  I got that wrong.  It’s Democrat Congresswoman, Jane Harman’s husband, Sidney Harman, instead.

Now tell me how this is not a conflict of interest?

Imagine the outcry if this were a republican!!  Let’s watch the double standard play itself out here.  I’m sure it will be a-okay since it’s a mighty democrat involved.

On August 2, 2010, Sidney Harman, the 91-year-old founder of audio equipment maker Harman International Industries Inc., and husband of Representative Jane Harmon, (D/Calif) has agreed to buy Newsweek, ending a nearly half-century chapter for the magazine as part of The Washington Post Co.

Jon Meacham, the magazine’s top editor since 2006, will step down.

On July 8, 2010, Mattie Fein, Jane Harman’s (republican) opponent in the 36th district in California, wrote an open letter to Newsweek’s Managing Editor Jon Meacham voicing concerns over Jane Harman’s history of strong arm tactics that could potentially influence Newsweek magazine if an acquisition by Harman International is successful.

TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The following is an open letter from Mattie Fein to Donald Graham, CEO of Washington Post Co., on the Harman International bid to acquire Newsweek:

Dear Mr. Graham:

According to The New York Times, at present, you are inclined towards accepting the bid for Newsweek submitted by audio and defense software company Harman International.  But neither Jane Harman nor Newsweek’s Jon Meacham have answered my documented concerns that Harman International sells dual use electronics with business in Iran through a wholly owned Austrian subsidiary; that Jane Harman should divest herself of her millions in Harman International shares to avoid a conflict of interest or loyalties in Congress; and, that Jane Harman has a troublesome history of interfering with a free press to advance a political agenda, which would only be aggravated by her millions of dollars of share ownership in Harman International.  Consider the following elaboration.

Jane Harman is notorious for attempting to cripple the role of the press in providing organized scrutiny of government and exposing government wrongdoing.  She interceded with The New York Times to attempt to kill the disclosure of the government’s illegal warrantless Terrorist Surveillance Program; and, when that failed, she urged an Espionage Act prosecution of the newspaper for unearthing government action on this issue.  Jane Harman was following if not bettering the instruction of those who conceived an attempt to thwart publication of The Pentagon Papers by Washington Post, which The Washington Post courageously opposed.

In a recent letter to Newsweek’s Jon Meacham, I flagged a Harman-Iran issue crying out for further investigation.  A wholly owned subsidiary of Harman International in Austria is distributing arguably dual use electronic equipment in Iran at the same time the United States is tightening sanctions there to deter nuclear proliferation.  Iran is listed by the United States as a state sponsor of terrorism.  I urged Jane Harman to divest her shares, but she has neither said nor done anything.  Members of Congress, like Caesar’s wife, should be above suspicion.

Newsweek has neglected to report on Harman’s scorn for a free press or conflict of interest in owning Harman International shares that gain in value from trade with Iran.  The Washington Post on June 14, 2010 published an article on lawmaker’s conflicts of interest targeting Jane Harman but, no follow through on the Iran issue. The silence is deafening. Is there a sinister force at work?

You and your family are the stewards of Newsweek’s long and honorable tradition of independent news reporting or editorializing.  I would suggest you consider asking Meacham and Harman to answer my concerns about compromising that fine tradition in conducting due diligence.

Sarah Palin is driving the liberal media into a frenzy

Enough already

Stop the Abuse

I opened my compuer this morning to a prominent article on YAHOO about Fox News somehow airing crowds of Sarah Palin fans that were not necessarily from the book tour, but from some previous meetings during the campaign.  The headline read “Fox News Again Accused of Misleading Video.”

Well, I have absolutely no way of knowing if this was done intentionally to mislead or if it was a mistake made by someone in the lower ranks who maybe was just in error.  I do know that Hannity was man enough to apologize for one such instance.

Then along at the very end of the piece, the author, Brett Dykes, said this:

Barely a week into Palin’s blitz to promote “Going Rogue,” media coverage is becoming its own story. Fox News rival MSNBC caught heat last week for using altered images of Sarah Palin on the air, for which they later apologized. On Wednesday, Yahoo! News reported Newsweek’s defense of their latest controversial cover, which Palin herself blasted as “sexist.”

If – and I’m saying if – Fox News deliberately used the wrong footage, which I am not at all convinced of, it is nowhere close to being as agregious as the obviously deliberate acts of altering images by using photoshop and actually stealing a cover from a sports magazine to place on the cover of Newsweek.  Both of these blatantly meant to demean and sexualize.  There’s malice shown here that seems to be typical of the liberal media coverage of this woman.  Also, AP has dispatched 11 reporters to “fact check” her book.  Eleven people to fact check a book which she has every right to write, just as almost every other public figure has.  Has anybody done a fact check on, say, Barack Obama’s books?  Hardly.

I, for one, have had it with the extremely negative media coverage that has been leveled at Sarah Palin.  One reason is, that it seems to be entirely acceptable to bash her as a woman, and treating her in ways that would never ever be done to a man.  It is setting women’s rights back – no, I don’t think the treatment of women has ever been to this degree of disrespect.

So as a woman, I am protesting this treatment.  And, no, not any woman has been so brutalized before.  Not one.

And as far as being smart?  I am positive she is smart enough not to order a terrorist trial in the middle of Manhattan.  I am positive she is too smart to be afraid to label Major Hasan a terrorist or at the very least a traitor.

It is decidedly dumb to make a statement like Chris Matthews made in defense of Major Hasan, to quote, “Well, it’s not against the law to call al qaeda, is it?”  Now, that folks is dumb.  Yeah, it surely might be againt the law for a Major in the United States Army to be communicating with al qaeda.

But I am positive that Sarah Palin is smart enough not to push a health care overhaul that all the polls show the American people do not want.  I am positive that she would be smart enough to use the natural resources we have in this country rather than continuing to buy from our enemies.  I know she would be smart enough to make a decision on Afghanistan and not leave our troops there hanging out to dry, because she would be smart enough to listen to the recommendations of the general she chose and put in charge there and send more troops.  And I am sure without a doubt that she would be too smart to bow down to kings and emperors. I know she would be smart enough to uphold the dignity and sovereignty of the United States of America.

Where Is the birth certificate? No. 2

Chris Matthews just laid the “Birthers” low again.  I include myself in that category because I’m not particularly satisfied with the certification of live birth on Obama, the phony looking one which Chris showed again, the same one that’s on the internet, not anything new.  He held it up and I still don’t see a seal or a signature.  What would be so hard about getting one with a seal on it?  Here it is.  Now, honestly, does this look real?  Why does the background extend beyond the border?  And where’s the seal and signature?  It could be on the back I guess, but not likely since there’s plenty of room on the front.  I did notice the one he put up has rounded corners for what that’s worth.

He started out by calling all who question the proof of birth…..I can’t remember the word he used at the very beginning. Maybe I will remember it.  Some really derogatory word though.

Then Howard Fineman of Newsweek came on and in his, oh, so serious voice, he made his contribution to this fine piece of jounalism and said that he had seen “this kind” down at a tea party in Kentucky when he was there, the “rocks at the bottom of the river when the water is low.”  Chris then says the birthers are the ones, when they take the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, would answer yes to questions like, “is someone following you? is somebody trying to kill you?” – the “full mooners” – “the ones with psychological problems” – “the erogenous zones of insanity.”  This is some very extreme language.

I think they are coming for me!!  🙂  straight jacket2

See video of the Chris Matthews segment today.

But, seriously, he was putting up the birth announcement from the newspaper.  This is interesting but anybody can put anything in any newspaper as a birth announcement.  They don’t check to see if there is even a baby.  It just isn’t proof.  Try using a birth announcement printed in the paper to get your passport or even a duplicate driver’s license for that matter.  It just won’t fly.

It is not crazy to ask these questions.  My question is why do they all get so exorcised by the questions?  Again, Obama could put a stop to it in a flash.  He has the burden of proof.  I believe Chris has had something on it almost every single day.  Do they protest too much?

Chris told Gordon Liddy he would present him with something the other day that would convince Liddy.  So where is that evidence?

All I want to know is:  Where’s the birth certificate?  And where is my tin foil hat?  🙂

At the White House press conference today:

Q.  “Is there anything you can do to make the “Birthers” go away?  Robert Gibbs:  A.   “No.”

Matter of fact he said he “had it put on the internet, what more could they want?”  Haha.  Google it.  Now that is the proof right there.  Anything can appear on the internet.  Too funny.  But Gibbs said it all “made up fictional nonsense.”

Video of Gibbs press conference of today in the “august briefing room,” (July 27, 2009), is below.

See previous post here.

Interesting:  Campbell Brown of CNN and Keith Olbermann (guest host) are also reporting on this.  Worry, worry, worry.

NOW THE PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER IS CALLING FOR LOU DOBBS TO BE FIRED over the birth certificate issue!!!   O’Reilly is not too favorable of Dobbs either.   But says Lou will not be fired.   Boy, just as I said, these people are getting all bent out of shape over it.

But, hey, if everybody wants to have a president who is not a citizen, have at it.  It’s okay with me.  🙂

Obama birth certificate why the controversy won’t go away (hilarious).

Newsweek’s Evan Thomas: Obama’s “sort of God”

Part of a conversation between Chris Matthews and Evan Thomas on Friday:

Newsweek editor Evan Thomas brought adulation over President Obama’s Cairo speech to a whole new level on Friday, declaring on MSNBC: “I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God.”

Now there’s a pair, Evan Thomas and Chris Matthews!

See the rest of this “Worship” and a video Here.

Media slants and manipulates (Update)

In the 2003 inauguration of Bush,  reporters were attacking the $40 million price tag as obscene. “In a time of war and natural disaster, is it time for a lavish celebration?” ABC’s Terry Moran doubted. The AP’s Will Lester calculated that the money spent on Bush’s inaugural could vaccinate “22 million children in regions devastated by the tsunami….Do we need to spend this money on what seems so extravagant?”

Have we heard one word of criticism from ABC, AP, or anybody else in the MSM about the reported *$160 million the Obama Inauguration will cost?  I haven’t seen or heard anything.  And with the extreme crisis our country is in, you don’t even have to mention the homeless and hungry in other countries to wonder about the extravagance.

This is just one small example of how the MSM slants their coverage.  Anybody who believes a word of what they present to the American people could be pretty close to brainwashed.  In fact, there are many people in this country who are brainwashed because they buy into the hype and spin they hear.  The MSM have an agenda.  Bush never had a chance.  And they still haven’t let up on him.

And it’s really nothing new:

The New York Times asked in a January 3, 1993 headline: “Clinton as National Idol: Can the Honeymoon Last?” Newsweek magazine ran TV ads touting its commemorative edition “that’s sure to be a collector’s item because it covers the most important inauguration of our lifetime.” Wall Street Journal reporter Jill Abramson — now managing editor of news at the New York Times — confessed: “It’s an exciting time to be in Washington….People are excited. They’re happy about change….I think you’re going to see crowds for these inaugural events the likes of which we haven’t seen in Washington ever.”

I think Time magazine has had Obama on the front cover of their magazine 15 times.  And most of those times was before the election.  So as a candidate, is it fair reporting to give him this prominence even before he is elected?  Did it influence the election?  There’s no question it did.  He was the socially acceptable choice, the hip choice, the choice sure to make you look “intelligent” and “inclusive.”

And the MSM has and will cover for Obama.  They won’t let him make any mistakes.  But then maybe not forever.  Don’t they always turn on those they have built up?

President George Bush has been more than helpful and polite and just a stand up guy in making this transition of power go as smoothly as possible.  Unlike the reception he got when he took over from Clinton.  But he put the good of the country first, being fully aware of the importance of this critical time — you know, the time when the whole world is watching.

And the wall to wall coverage has begun.  Coronation is near.

UPDATE:  *””The country is in the middle of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, which isn’t stopping rich donors and the government from spending $170 million, or more, on the inauguration of Barack Obama.””  This from ABC, reporting an even larger figure and finally bringing up the extravagance
in light of the economy and pointing out that Obama’s Inauguration Has Been Financed in Part by Bailed-Out Wall Street Executives.

How does that make you feel?  Makes me furious.

Newsweek Editors, Meachem and Thomas, Have Conversation With Charlie Rose

This is a link to a video of the PBS Charlie Rose Show which aired on 11.05.08.  He is interviewing Jon Meachem and Evan Thomas of Newsweek.

I tried to excerpt it, but gave up.  It is beyond interesting, though, so if you have time, please watch.

They are having a discussion about Barack Obama, in general, remarks about the speech at Grant Park, they mention Saul Alinsky, which I have posted about previously, and they also get a little bit into their derogatory story about Governor Sarah Palin, which has now been found to be false.   Note:  Team Sarah speaking out on her behalf tonight on Fox!!  Yea.

How many times was Obama on the cover of Newsweek during this campaign?

They make the observation that Obama is “creepy,”  – their word, not mine.  That’s the reason I decided not to try excerpts.  It’s just better to listen in the entirety.  It’s not too long and is well worth it.
