“The Chicago Way” is not helping Obama decide on Afghanistan

On June 13, 2008, Barack Obama used this line at a political rally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania:

“If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun. Because from what I understand, folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans.”

Last week he declared war on FOX News.  Pulled out the big guns, sending out his top people, Anita Dunn, Axelrod, and Emanuel, to try to intimidate and isolate and black list FOX, then weighing in himself by endorsing the tactics.  Big, important government business.

Fast forward to today:

Obama, who is in the process of weighing options put forward by the Pentagon that include various levels of increased troops, spoke of the latest example of the dangers and sacrifices there—helicopter crashes that killed 14 Americans in the deadliest day for the U.S. mission in Afghanistan in more than four years.

“Fourteen Americans gave their lives. And our prayers are with these service members, their civilian colleagues and the families who loved them,” Obama said. “They were willing to risk their lives, in this case to prevent Afghanistan from again becoming a safe haven for al-Qaida and its extremist allies.”

His visit to the naval air station came after he met at the White House with his national security team for a sixth full-scale conference on the future of the faltering war.

With this quote of the day:

“I will never rush the solemn decision of sending you into harm’s way.”

This would make a good punch line for a joke (if it wasn’t so seriously sad).

He wasted no time sending troops in for the War with Fox.  He has played more golf in a few months than Bush did in nearly three years.  Today he used sailors as props while he mutters something about them risking their lives.  He wants to talk to the thugs of the world and he’s afraid to talk to Sean Hannity.

The only thing he knows is the Chicago Way.  And it has no place in Washington, D. C.

P.S.:  Of course, we all know what he is really doing is campaigning.  So obvious – a pit stop in New Orleans on the way to a democrat fundraiser in San Francisco last week.  This week he stops by the Naval Air Station on his way to Miami, again, on his way to a fundraiser.
