In the District on Tuesday to play for the Washington Kastles in a World Team Tennis match, Serena Williams paid a visit to the White House.
“It was amazing,” the reigning Wimbledon champ effused during a news conference before her match. “I loved President Obama! He has such an unbelievable presence yet seems to be so normal. He noticed my shoes! I think that was the highlight of my whole day! He liked my shoes.”
Noting her Fendis “were like 5 inches,” she continued: “He asked me should I be wearing high heels, so I thought that was kind of funny. He may have been right. It is a job hazard for me, but I insist on wearing them.”
She was asked if she was following the hearings being held on Supreme Court Nominee Sonia Sotomayor and she replied, nah.
But Sotomayor had a slight connection with Fendi as a New York litigator at Pavia & Harcourt, where she worked with Fendi on issues involving counterfeit goods. Back in 1992, the San Francisco Chronicle quoted Sotomayor as saying: “There will always be people who will run the risk of breaking the law. The only thing companies like Fendi can do is contain the problem as much as is humanly possible.”
I would love to see a picture of the exact shoes Serena was wearing to the White House, but no picture can be found. I wonder if this could be them? This photo was taken in late June at a pre-Wimbledon party.

There’s nothing new under the sun.
Just when you thought they would never return… ripped jeans are back. Starting in 2008 with a horde of sexed-up editorial shoots and celebrity sightings, those torn denim shorts and shredded jeans are hitting the streets. Ripped denim in 2009 is certainly sexy and revealing – possibly more than ever.
I like it. How appropriate for the economic climate.

Hot young designer Jason Wu, got a big boost into the national spotlight last week when Michelle Obama wore his #17 from his Spring 2009 collection for her interview with Barbara Walters. The $3,510 raw silk dress with hand-embroidered rosettes is part of a line of elegant evening gowns and ladylike dresses selling in the $1,000 to $6,000 range. http://www.luxist.com/2008/12/01/michelle-obama-wears-jason-wu/
Wu has designed several gowns that would be suitable for an inaugural ball, but he says he’s not counting on his being chosen, describing it as “a long shot.”
Jason Wu, 25, also designs clothing for high end collectible dolls
(Looks kinda’ like Barack, doesn’t he?)

Anybody got a sewing machine?
But, seriously, we’re in luck. Avon has signed former Mademoiselle editor Mandi Norwood to write a Michelle Obama Style Guide, due for release in the spring. “Not since Jackie O have we had a first lady become a fashion icon,” says Avon vice president Carrie Feron.
I’m sure I speak for all my redneck sisters out there — keeping it country…..
Can’t wait. 😉
Well, I lost out on my pick for president, and all I am hearing is layoffs and bailout, bailout, bailout — not very encouraging. So I seem to be focusing on anything to get my mind off the reality of it.
Which brings me to the glasses. I love Sarah Palin’s glasses. They are beautiful or is she beautiful or both? I think they make her look. I saw her at one appearance where she was wearing another pair, with a dark rim, and she didn’t look comfortable in them. I was glad to see she went back to her original style and did not fall into the mold of the smaller, square type, dark-rimmed style which may look good and smart on others, but would not look good on her.
It was reported that she had recently updated her eyewear to these new lightweight, titanium, rimless rectangular frames made for her by Home Optics, a retailer in Chugiak, Alaska. [Some homes for sale in Chugiak, just for fun: http://www.homes.com/Real_Estate/AK/City/CHUGIAK ]
The frames are designed by Kazuo Kawasaki, from the 704 series, in 34 gray. They start at $375 but can hit $700, depending on the lenses.

Sarah Palin’s frame color is 34 – Gray. The lens shape is custom made SP-51
OR look here for non-prescription lookalikes for about $50.00 or less. They were supposedly selling like hotcakes in September.
On election night, the First Lady elect wore these $11,000 diamond encrusted earrings by Loree Rodkin to accessorize her red and black Narciso Rodriquez dress – that’s diamond encrusted, triple dangle, white gold, with pear, oval, and marquee shapes. I would mention poor ole Auntie Zeit in the Boston housing project, but that wouldn’t be nice. I’m sure dress and earrings will be auctioned, with the money going to one of the Obama’s many charities. Uh-huh.

One thing about it, Ms. Loree has another notch in her belt. In September ’08, she already claimed celebrity clients such as Cher, her friend of 30 years, Elizabeth Taylor, Rihanna, Madonna, Mary J. Blige, and Elton John. She is a native of Chicago, now based in L.A. Loree Rodkin profile: http://www.loreerodkin.com/profile.html

But I’m savin’ my money for this one –
