As many of you have read, tomorrow, Tuesday, March 16, 2010, tens of thousands of conservative and Tea Party activists will be on the Hill as part of what they are dubbing a “Surge Against Obamacare.” Rick Scott, a multimillionaire investor and former hospital executive, is helping to lead the grassroots effort along with a number of other groups on the right like Dick Armey’s FreedomWorks. While many of you have met with outspoken activists in your districts in the past, we wanted to remind you of some of the best practices to review with your DC staff:

1. Be prepared. Activists are expected to begin arriving around 9am and they have been given instructions to wait in your office until they can have a meeting. Please have an orderly process and enough staff and interns to welcome what could be a very large number of visitors throughout the day:
• Have staff and/or Member time set-aside to visit with attendees in small groups;
• Ask for extra chairs or seating to be brought to your office or the hall in case there are seniors or disabled visitors that need to be accommodated;
• Consider having some light snacks, H2O, and coffee available;
• Ask visitors to leave all signs and banners outside the office.

2. Prioritize listening to your constituents: • Have multiple guest books/comment sheets available for all visitors to sign-in and leave comments — we recommend you have one for residents of your district, one for residents of your state (but not your district), and one for out-of-state visitors. Have a Capitol Directory and map available to direct visitors to their Member of Congress and written instructions on how…..

Code Red Rally at Upper Senate Park

Here’s some wonderful coverage of the Code Red Rally. Excerpt below:

Thousands of patriots from all over the United States turned out at Code Red Rally held at Upper Senate Park in Washington DC on Tuesday December 15. The main speaker was radio host and FOX News commentator Laura Ingraham with a surprise guest appearance by Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. Other speakers included Sens. Tom Coburn (R-Okla) and Jim DeMint (R-SC).

They charged up the crowd who chanted “kill the bill” throughout the event. Following the rally, participants walked across the street to urge their senators to vote against the Democrat’s Health Care Reform Bill that the majority of Americans appose.

Obama using scare tactics again to push the health care bill

Mr. President, you’re just gonna have to stop trying to scare people.

President Obama told ABC News’ Charles Gibson in an interview that if Congress does not pass health care legislation that will bring down costs, the federal government “will go bankrupt.”

The president laid out a dire scenario of what will happen if his health care reform effort fails.

“If we don’t pass it, here’s the guarantee….your premiums will go up, your employers are going to load up more costs on you,” he said. “Potentially they’re going to drop your coverage, because they just can’t afford an increase of 25 percent, 30 percent in terms of the costs of providing health care to employees each and every year. “

The president said that the costs of Medicare and Medicaid are on an “unsustainable” trajectory and if there is no action taken to bring them down, “the federal government will go bankrupt.”

What?  What is wrong with this man?  You almost have to take anything he says and turn it around to the exact opposite to get the truth about anything.  And they are talking about adding people to medicare, taking out billions of dollars from medicare.  How does that make any sense?

I think it’s the other way around.  The country will go bankrupt if this bill is passed.

And remember, it will give almost absolute power to the Secretary of Health, Kathleen Sebelius.

Michele Bachmann said at the Code Red Rally that Sebelius’s name is mentioned some thousands of times in the bill, and I know this to be true because I saw it myself, although I did not count them.  She will have absolute power over the health care program.

I tried to search on Google and Yahoo to find that statement and I have been trying now for about 30 minutes and all that comes up is the posts made by Media Matters or other posts that cast the rally in a negative light.  Pretty much proof that the search machines are also biased and fixed.  I have yet to find a transcript of the speeches that Michele Bachmann and Laura Ingraham gave at the Code Red Rally.  I will continue looking.

When you google the Code Red Rally, what comes up is “Fox News and rightwing media promote Code Red Rally” and what Media Matters has to say about it.  So Google and the search machines are also corrupt and fixed.

Update:  Finally found something on the number of times HHS is mentioned in the bill, meaning the current Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius.

A quick search of the Senate health bill will bring up “secretary” 2,500 times.

That’s because Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius would be awarded unprecedented new powers under the proposal, including the authority to decide what medical care should be covered by insurers as well as the terms and conditions of coverage and who should receive it.

“The legislation lists 1,697 times where the secretary of health and humans services is given the authority to create, determine or define things in the bill,” said Devon Herrick, a health care expert at the National Center for Policy Analysis.

The fight is on: Citizen rally yesterday and amendment being read in Senate today (Video)

Fight.  Fight.  Fight.

Yesterday (12.15.09) a citizen’s rally was held at the Capitol protesting passage of the health care bill.  Michele Bachman and Laura Ingraham were among the featured speakers.

Today, Senator Tom Coburn, Republican from Oklahoma and medical doctor, has called for the clerk to read in its entirety an amendment on the floor of the Senate, which is in progress now.  It started about 12:00 p.m. on 12.16.09 and it’s 1:39 now.  I don’t know how long it will take to read the amendment presented by Bernie Sanders (the only admitted socialist in the Senate, more than 700 pages.  Good.  And I hear they may require the reading of the whole health care bill, over 9000 pages?  Good, again.  Fight.  Slow it down.  Stop it.  Start over.
