Obama in New Jersey on Sunday – The hug? Almost

Cozy.  This may not work out so well for Governor Christie, as Charlie Crist found out.

Republican Marco Rubio easily defeated Gov. Charlie Crist and U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek to take Florida’s open Senate seat on Tuesday, keeping it with the GOP.

Marco Rubio at Ft. Myers Rally

“The image of Gov. Charlie Crist embracing President Barack Obama at a Fort Myers rally to promote the then-yet-to-be passed $787 billion federal stimulus package. On Wednesday, (02.10.10) Crist’s primary challenger, former House Speaker Marco Rubio, went to the same hall exactly a year after the Crist/Obama event and rallied a wildly enthusiastic crowd of 500 against what he says is failed economic policy.”

REWIND – Scott Brown: “Shame on Chuck”

Prior to January 19, 2010

The tone has changed a bit since the 19th election, but it’s kinda fun to look back at the ridicule the tea parties have suffered.

First, is Scott Brown’s response to Chuck Schumer calling him a “far right teabagger Republican.”:

Below, watch Rachel Maddow and Ana Marie Cox mock “teabaggers” prior to the Tax Day April, 2009 protest.  Notice the smirk on her face.  She is so cute, huh?

Odd, when you type in the word on you tube, all that comes up are these videos disparaging and making fun of the tea parties.  Now, I know there are many, many videos out there in favor of them, so the search mechanism seems very fixed.  Definitely trying to control the perception.  But then it is to be expected from You Tube/Google. See Google Goes to Washington

Oh, well, watch those election results, beginning with JANUARY 19th Massachuetts.  🙂

Tom Friedman is just saying “he doesn’t sense a positive agenda”  from the tea bag movement.  Notice:  The positive agenda is to change Washington, D. C., by use of the ballot box, seat by seat.  That is the agenda.

One to watch: Crist/Rubio in Florida.

“The Republican primary in Florida, which pits Governor Charlie Crist against Marco Rubio, is being watched carefully as a harbinger for the impact the Tea Party may have on the midterm elections.”

Brand new poll today:  showing 47 Rubio/44 Crist.

This is the seat vacated by the resignation of Mel Martinez.

Crist appointed George Lemieux to basically hold the seat for him.

“Lemieux, 40, was Crists’ closest and most loyal adviser and political guru. Lemieux ran Crist’s 2006 campaign for governor — earning the nickname “maestro” from the governor — and later served as his chief of staff. Before that, LeMieux was Florida’s deputy attorney general under Crist from 2003-2007.”  From Orlando Sentinel

Florida Highwaymen ~ Legends in their own time

Florida Governor Charlie Crist chose image of a painting done by one of the original Highwaymen, James Gibson of Ft. Pierce, for the governor’s holiday greeting cards this year.

The Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee is home to 22 of James Gibson’s paintings. Gibson completed Nightscape I, the painting featured on the card, about a year ago for Crist. It depicts a palm tree on the bank of the Indian River.

In the early 1950’s through the 1980’s a group of twenty-six African-American artists painted beautiful landscapes that displayed the serene, undeveloped Florida landscape of their time.

During that time, they were sold around Florida for about $25.00 each, $35.00 tops. Today they could be worth thousands.  Many tourists as well as Florida residents purchased them.

These artists are known as the  Florida Highwaymen and because of the tranquil scenes and history involved, their original paintings are highly demanded by collectors and enthusiasts.

They used vivid and bright colors in their paintings, sometimes using house paint, I am told, to display the beautiful untouched Florida landscape. They painted wind-bent palm trees, serene sunsets, churning oceans and bright red Poinciana trees.

See another account Here.

The Highwaymen Winter Event will be held in Mt. Dora, Florida, on January 10, 2009, where some of the artists, including James Gibson, will be appearing.  Free admission.

Governor Charlie Crist to Say “I do” Tonight

Florida Governor, Charlie Crist, will be married tonight in Saint Petersburg at the First Methodist Church.  The bride and Florida’s new first lady is  Manhattan socialite, Carole Rome.

Wedding plans have been pretty much top secret, but it is reported that some high profile media guys such as Sean Hannity, Joe Scarborough, and Wolf Blitzer are on the invitation list of about 200.

As for the courtship, Crist met Rome last fall in New York. At the time, she was still married, but divorcing the CEO of Bluestar Jets. Crist too had been married before. But that was nearly 30 years ago, and it lasted less than a year. He described himself as “gun-shy” about a second marriage — until he met Rome. “I was taken with her right away,” he told The Associated Press. “You know how it is when you fall in love. It’s pretty overwhelming — a very cool thing.”
