The Destruction of History and Art

This video shows the incredible process of what is called the lost-art method of creating in bronze.

There are other videos on line that are longer and more detailed but I wanted to use this one because it was made by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

What’s happening right now across the country pulling down these statues and monuments will be a dark time in history. Think about it.  In America we are looking like ISIS. The statue in this video is of Theodore Roosevelt.  It is targeted for removal or it may have already been destroyed.

And I don’t buy the line they will be removed and placed in some museum somewhere. They will never be in a museum. They’ll end up in some warehouse, if that.
And it doesn’t matter anyway because the move has already been made to remove them from museums and even the Capitol.

The video above is NOT the video that goes with the quote below and not made by metropolitan museum of art.  I could not get that one to post properly  it does illustrate the Lost Wax Casting method of creating works of art in bronze

In conjunction with the exhibition The American West in Bronze, 1850–1925 (on view December 18, 2013–April 13, 2014), this silent video shows the many processes involved in the making of A. Phimister Proctor’s bronze equestrian statue Theodore Roosevelt. The sculptor’s small, rough clay sketch, which he has worked up as a fully detailed plaster model, is transformed into a full-scale model (the modeling took place from 1920 to 1922) and then cast in 1922 via the lost-wax method with the assistance of skilled artisans. Finally, the completed statue is unveiled in Portland, Oregon. This shortened version of the original 1922 film was made as a gallery installation for the loan exhibition Cast Images: American Bronze Sculpture from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York State Museum, Albany (October 20, 2007–February 24, 2008).”
