Governor and Mrs. Charlie Crist – The Knot is Tied

brideandgroom The Bride and Groom

Gov. Charlie Crist became the first sitting Florida governor to wed in nearly 42 years, exchanging vows Friday evening with New York socialite Carole Rome in a 20 minute church ceremony.

Some attending the ceremony were former Florida Gov. Bob Martinez, former Olympic gymnast Shannon Miller, Tampa Bay Rays owner Stuart Sternberg, former U.S. Senator Connie Mack, Geraldo Rivera, Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Derrick Brooks and Democratic Congressman Robert Wexler of Fla.

“She’s a beautiful first lady. I couldn’t be more excited,” Crist said after the ceremony, in which Rome wore a floor-length classic silk gown by a Spanish designer purchased at upscale Wedding Atelier in Manhattan. “It’s a great night for Florida and it’s a great night for us.”

More about the wedding gown – “She selected a beautiful, classic silk Dupioni gown by a Spanish designer,” said Carrie Hung, owner of Wedding Atelier, whose dresses retail from just under $1,000 to $12,000.    http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/politics/elections/sfl-flbcristbride1202sbdec02,0,6873585.story

Early Morning Prayer Meeting at Blago’s Chicago Home (Updated)

A group of pastors were at Governor Blagojevich’s home  in Chicago this morning.  The Chicago Sun Times has a play by play @http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/blagojevich/1328254,blagojevich-meets-with-reverends-121208.article

Rev. Marshall Hatch of the New Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church

Rev. Steve Jones,  President of Baptist Pastor’s Conference

Rev. Leonard Barr, Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church

And Rev. Ira Acree, Greater St. John Bible Church, were in attendance at the early morning meeting.

Hmm.  I am all for prayer but does anybody else think it is a little unusual for at least four Baptist ministers to come to a home as early in the morning as 8:00  a.m. for prayer? Remember the old song, If Jesus Came to Your House?  It could be a little unnerving.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOM1okyHx6E

Maybe this sheds a little light on it:  http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2007/05/thought_it_migh.html This list is not in alphabetical order, but all four of these pastors are on it.

Bleepin’ Keith Bleepin’ Olbermann

Olbermann names Red Eye’s Greg Gutfeld “the worst person in the world.”  Gutfeld takes him on.

See the video @  http://chickaboomer.blogspot.com/2008/12/keith-olbermann-fluff-psychopathologic.html

Very funny.

Well, it WAS very funny.  Looks like the thought/word police are hard at work.

UPDATE:  I have been searching high and low for this video but it seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth.  Even on Newsbusters – but at least they have the story – the video of Olbermann’s naming Gutfeld worst person in the world and Gutfeld’s response in print for anyone who is interested in the backstory.

See Newsbusters from December, 2008.

Standing in the Need of Prayer

In an unprecedented move, the Illinois attorney general, Lisa Madigan, asked the state’s highest court today to strip scandal-plagued Gov. Rod Blagojevich of his powers.

“I recognize that this is an extraordinary request, but these are extraordinary circumstances,” Madigan said at a news conference.

It was not immediately clear when the Supreme Court might take up the matter. The justices also have the discretion to deny the attorney general’s request.

The move came as the governor prayed with several ministers in his home before heading to his office, telling them he is innocent and will be vindicated “when you hear each chapter completely written,” according to one of the pastors.

Governor Charlie Crist to Say “I do” Tonight

Florida Governor, Charlie Crist, will be married tonight in Saint Petersburg at the First Methodist Church.  The bride and Florida’s new first lady is  Manhattan socialite, Carole Rome.

Wedding plans have been pretty much top secret, but it is reported that some high profile media guys such as Sean Hannity, Joe Scarborough, and Wolf Blitzer are on the invitation list of about 200.

As for the courtship, Crist met Rome last fall in New York. At the time, she was still married, but divorcing the CEO of Bluestar Jets. Crist too had been married before. But that was nearly 30 years ago, and it lasted less than a year. He described himself as “gun-shy” about a second marriage — until he met Rome. “I was taken with her right away,” he told The Associated Press. “You know how it is when you fall in love. It’s pretty overwhelming — a very cool thing.”

Conversations Between Rahm Emanuel and Blagojevich Likely (Updated)

“I’m confident that no representatives of mine would have any part of any deals related to this seat”…..”What I’m absolutely certain about is that our office had no involvement around any deal-making, that I’m absolutely certain of. “

Fox Chicago News has learned about possible conversations between a top Obama aide and the governor regarding the open senate seat.

Craig Hall of Fox Chicago News reports that:

“A reliable source familiar with the investigation confirmed that Rahm Emanuel did, in fact, have  multple conversations with Governor Blagojevich and his chief of staff, John Harris, about the seat.  The source says there was a list of names given to the governor’s office of candidates that would be acceptable to President-elect Barack Obama.”

It is further reported that these conversations took place after the wire taps were in place and after Rahm Emanuel was appointed as Obama’s chief of staff, so the conversations are likely recorded and in the hands of the FBI.

See video:

When asked about this by a Sun Times reporter, at a concert he was attending for his kids, he wouldn’t answer, saying he was there to be a father and pushed the reporter’s recorder away.

UPDATE:  Blagojevich chief of staff, John Harris, has resigned.  He was arrested along with Blago on Tuesday and released on bond.

UPDATE:  How long before Emanuel goes under the bus?  Some give it a week.

“I did not speak to the governor about these issues” #2

KHQA reports this by Alexis Hunt on 11.08.08, about three days after it was reported that the meeting between Obama and Blagojevich was to take place.  Here it says “they met earlier this week to discuss it.”  Did they meet or didn’t they?  Obama says they did not.   I’m sure he knows if they talked or not.  This, again, is hard to read, but if you go to the link at the bottom, it can be magnified and read easily.

“I had no contact with the governor’s office.  I did not speak to the governor about these issues.  That I know for certain.”
