Barack Obama – Just the FACTS

There are some rumors out there about Barack Obama – absolutely.  And there are for sure some facts as well.  The following are some of the FACTS.  Some of these I have taken from good sources, and some of them we all know are facts from personal experience if we have been paying the slightest attention to the news as it has unfolded.

1. FACT:  Born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii, at either Queens Medical Center or Kapiolani Medical Center.  (We know he WAS born, we just don’t know exactly where.)

2.  FACT:  His father was Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., of Luo ethnicity, Nyangoma-Kogelo, Siaya District, Kenya.  His father’s mother is a devout Muslim by her own declaration.

3.  FACT:  His mother was Stanley Ann Dunham.  (See my post:  Obama’s Mother, A Closer Look.)

3.  FACT:  His father, Barack, Sr., married at 18 a girl named Kezia in Kenya.  At 23 he married Barack’s mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, still married to Kezia and leaving her behind in Kenya with a son and pregnant.  He later had two more children by Kezia.  He had a third wife, Ruth, while still legally married to Kezia and Stanley Ann.  He had two children with Ruth and an eighth child by yet another woman.

4.  FACT:  Barack lived his entire childhood either in Indonesia or Hawaii with his mother, her second husband, and his grandparents, Ann’s parents.  This is his “typical white person” grandmother he referred to shortly after his race speech.

5.   FACT:  After graduating in Hawaii from high school, Barack came to mainland United States, and after a short stay in California and New York, he ended up in Chicago.  There he became a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ and began his association with the pastor, Jeremiah Wright, where they proudly proclaim the Black Liberation Theology, and where he remained a member for some 20 years. See

6.  FACT:  In a 2004 interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, Obama mentioned three men as his spiritual advisers, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Father Michael Pfleger, and  Illinois State Senator, James Meeks. He is quoted as stating that these three men helped him keep his spiritual compass set.

First and formost is the Reverand Jeremiah Wright who was Obama’s inspiration for his book and his mentor and pastor for 20 years.  I am sure everyone has seen the videos of him.    But the other two, Pfleger and Meeks are not that well publicized.  See Wright here for an example of his incendiary sermons:

Now, bear in mind that Barack, as a church member, would be seated among the cheering crowd in the pews.  Was he, too, cheering, clapping, and standing in enthusiastic approval of Wright’s words?  It is also noted and not often brought out that Reverand Wright was not only his pastor but was chosen by Obama as a member of his campaign Spiritual Advisory Committee.

Father Pfleger (who is a Louis Farrakhan ally) whose church in Chicago has received at least $225,000 in federal grants and until recently was connected with the Obama campaign, which flew him to Iowa to host an interfaith forum.  Listen to Father Pfleger here for his discussion of race from the Trinity United Church pulpit:

The third mentor, Illinois Senator James Meeks, another Chicago pastor, has generated controversy for mixing the pulpit and politics.  Listen here for a sample of Meeks:

7.  FACT:  The February 12, 2006, edition of Trinity United Church of Christ news magazine, The Trumpet, featured on its cover Barack Obama, Louis Farrakhan, Rev. Wright, Elijah Mohammad, founder of Nation of Islam, and others.

8.  FACT:  Rev. Wright and the church gave Farrakhan the Lifetime Achievement Award  and Farrakhan is on the cover of The Trumpet Nov/Dec 2007 edition.  When asked about his association with Farrakhan at his National Press Club appearance, Rev. Wright said, “well, he’s not the one who put me in chains.”   At this appearance, Rev. Wright also reaffirmed his view that the U. S. government may have initiated the AIDS epidemic to wipe out minorities,  as well as praised Nation of Islam leader, Louis Farrakhan.

7.  FACT:  Rev. Wright and Minister Farrakhan traveled together to Libya in the 1980’so visit Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi.

8.   FACT:  Rev. Wright was disinvited by Obama to give invocation at his presidential announcement, but he was a part of his campaign and was serving on the Obama campaign African American Religious Leadership Committee until the “God damn America” videos surfaced.

9.  FACT:  Obama finally announced he was leaving the Trinity Church, where he had been married and his children had been baptized, just a few weeks ago — very reluctantly.  And I quote:  “This is not a decision that I come to lightly, and frankly it’s one that I made with some sadness.”

And one that he made only after his long-time friend and spiritual adviser, Father Pfleger, as a visiting speaker at the Trinity United Church of Christ, had mocked Senator Hillary Clinton from the pulpit by stating she thought she had “white entitlement” to the presidency.
