Obama Promises Community Organizers They Will Help Shape His Agenda

Words of Barack Obama at the debate last night when asked about his connection to ACORN:

“Now, with respect to ACORN, ACORN is a community organization. Apparently what they’ve done is they were paying people to go out and register folks, and apparently some of the people who were out there didn’t really register people, they just filled out a bunch of names.

It had nothing to do with us. We were not involved. The only involvement I’ve had with ACORN was I represented them alongside the U.S. Justice Department in making Illinois implement a motor voter law that helped people get registered at DMVs.”

(In other words, think nothing of it, just a little voter registration fraud.  We know no-thing.)

But in December of last year, at the Heartland Democratic Presidential Forum, he said ACORN and community organizer groups would help shape the agenda for his administration, if elected.  Deepak Bhargava*, ACORN leader for years, introduces Barack Obama, and following a standing ovation, Obama was asked if he would sit down with a delegation of community organizers within the first 100 days.  He answered:

“Even before I get inaugurated, during the transition, we’re going to be calling you all in to help shape the agenda.  We’re going to be meeting with community organizers all across this country so that you have input into the administration for the next  presidency of the United States of America.”
