George Carlin Dies

South Park skit – and he says the seven words at the end so don’t play if you don’t want to hear them.  🙂

I just read that George Carlin has died in Los Angeles at age 71.  Fairly long life as compared to Tim Russert.  I never paid much attention to George Carlin until Imus got fired.

At that time, in 2007, I read about the 1978 case, Federal Communications Commission vs. Pacifica Foundation, in which the U. S. Supreme Court had ruled that the words in Carlin’s comedy routine called “Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV”, were indecent, and that the FCC could ban them from being aired at times when children might be listening.  Well, I then had to look up exactly what those seven words were, and the words “nappy headed hos” were not on the list.  I would cite them here but I doubt they would get through the spam trap.

Apparently, Mr. Carlin had a rather fatalistic (should have said cynical) view and didn’t believe much in God or humanity.  He is reported to have said in an interview in 2001, “I don’t have any beliefs or allegiances. I don’t believe in this country, I don’t believe in religion, or a god, and I don’t believe in all these man-made institutional ideas.”  Maybe he didn’t really mean that.  I hope he did not.  I know I would hate to face death not believing in anything at all and going out into some vast nothingness.  No meaning in life.  No meaning in death.
